Site health and accessibility

How is your website doing and performing? When was the last time you updated your content? Those questions may seem trivial, perhaps even laughable for some. In reality, these questions are ones that you should be asking yourself on the regular and checking in on. You may be surprised how many pages you haven’t looked at or touched in over a year!

Siteimprove

One way to check in on your website is by utilizing SiteImprove and the monthly reports being sent to you. SiteImprove is set up to provide you with insights on your search engine optimization (SEO), website accessibility and broken links. These scores can be checked at anytime right within SIteImprove. Additionally, a report for broken links and accessibility is ran on the first of every month and emailed to site administrators – you may have to check your clutter! This can give you a quick glimpse into what needs to be updated or changed.

CMS last updated date

When updating a page, it is good practice to read through the page in its entirety and update all of the content, check for broken links, descriptive links, alt text on photos and more. You may also consider sorting by “last updated” in the CMS to see what pages haven’t been updated in the past 6 months and review the material to see if it’s still relevant to your site.

We recommend going through each page in the CMS, viewing the live page and reading through the content fully. This is also a good opportunity to ensure any calls to action or next steps for each page are in place. And finally, to acknowledge the page is up to date, click the “Publish page” button to reset the last updated date.
